Oats - a great superfood

Our recommended Top food No.1 – Oats

Oats – yes get your oats in! Why?

They’re an unrefined quality source of complex carbohydrate, low fat and easily digestible. They are perfect for providing slow release energy for sport and fitness training. They contain a specific type of fibre, beta-glucan which helps remove cholesterol and reduces the risk of heart disease. Eat them as porridge, bircher muesli or oat cakes topped with a healthy choice.

At Pete Fraser Fitness we recommend to our clients a moderate, varied and balanced diet. Oats are a useful part of this diet and we recommend them for health, fitness and sport.

Nutritional background:

Low in saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium and are a good source of dietary fibre. They are also a good source of Thiamin, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus and Manganese.

Sport:

Oats and oat products can help maintain healthy blood levels through their slow release energy delivery.  They are easily digested 2/3hrs prior to exercise and provide sustained energy release to help maintain intensities during sport.
